Sugar Cane Cuttings Heirloom Varieties

Regular price $30.00

Grow your own sugar cane! A taste of the south and a piece of history. We grow and collect over 25 varieties of heirloom sugar cane. We offer fresh cut pieces that are perfect for growing. Sugar cane prefers a hot and humid growing climate with plenty of moisture and soil fertility. It is successfully grown across many of the southern states and west into California. It can also grow in greenhouses or large pots and harvested before a winter freeze. The best time to plant in USDA zones 8-11 is from October- March.  We do offer some varieties of cane outside these dates but that is the main planting and harvest season usually.

Our heirloom sugar cane is organically grown,  and we send fresh cut pieces 6-8" long of ready for planting.

Make sure to read about the varieties here: SUGAR CANE VARIETY VIEWER

Most of our cane consists of heirloom varieties that is preserved in our collection. We grow, research, and evaluate sugar cane on the farm and distribute these varieties.  We also make fresh squeezed sugar cane juice which is a very healthy refreshing drink and sugar cane syrup which is a southern version of maple syrup.

*Planting Instructions*

Bury the cutting about 3" below your soil if directly planting in the ground (zone 8 or warmer). Mulch and let the cutting root in. the cane will sprout and come up in the spring as it warms with a established root system.

For starting the cane cutting in a pot:  Bury the cutting about 2" below the soil laying on its side horizontally. Keep warm and slightly moist.
